GetValue<String> null vs empty return

Oct 22, 2013 at 6:05 PM
I am running into a scenario where in some cases I get a null return and sometimes I get an empty return from calling GetValue<String> on a cell, but when I look at the spreadsheet there is no discernible difference - they both just look empty. From what I can tell the columns are formatted the same.

Why would this be? Does Excel distinguish between null and empty string values? If so, how can you tell which is which in Excel?

Thanks, DanO

I think a cell will return null if never been initialized and empty if already been initialized before.

Do you know if there is a way to display NULL in Excel when the cell is null? Instead of always showing an empty string?

If you opened a new excel file you want to show 1 million of cells labeled with "null" ? I think there is no way to do that.
